The Power Array Saga - Season Four - Part XXIII

Part XXIII – The Void and the Rivalry

Before Monel could get close to the Ura leader, several lower level demons formed a wall in front of her. Without missing a beat, Monel smoothly pulled a pair of kunai from her belt and twirled them in a brief flourish before tightly gripping their handles. She gritted her teeth in frustration. She knew that there were too many. As the first demon drew close, Monel activated her ocular powers. Her bright blue eyes flared with a brilliant light as the first Ura made eye contact with her. The demon froze in his tracks, paralyzed. The other demons flowed around their stiff brethren and continued to charge forward, pushing Monel backwards as she used her kunai to fend off their elongated nails.
Before Monel could take the offensive, she sensed a presence by her side. She did not have time to react although she sensed that the person was not her enemy. From the corner of her eye, Monel witnessed a thick, longsword with a unique design cleaving an Ura in two. The other demons paused.
“Don’t tell me that this garbage is giving you trouble after all that big talk,” said Iris playfully.
                Monel responded with a growl.
The Ura standing between the two females and the Ura leader charged with renewed vigor. Before the demons could get close, Monel threw her two kunai. Two of the charging demons were struck in the forehead and they fell to the floor in a heap. She quickly pulled two more kunai from her belt and braced herself in a defensive stance. Before the group of demons could bear down on her, Iris stepped in front of her, spinning while her broadsword twirled as if it were a cane in her hands. Any demon that got too close to her deadly dance was struck down.
Monel watched closely as Iris used her Acro eyes and her uniquely shaped broadsword in unison to take down several demons. Monel bristled at the sight but would not let herself be outdone. She charged forward, leaping and spinning past her rival before sliding on her knees between the legs of an unsuspecting Ura who was caught off guard. As Monel slid along the dirt, she used her kunai to slice the tendons on the back of the demon’s ankles. Several Ura hit the floor screaming in agony, their ankle muscles no longer able to support their weight. Monel and Iris stood so that they were back to back. Then, throwing her last two remaining kunai, Monel struck two of the demons dead. She drew her last two weapons, two rare daggers that she only used as a last resort during battle.
Only a few Ura now remained. They were dispatched with ease. From the edge of the forest the Ura leader watched with growing anger. He surveyed the battlefield. He realized his forces were being pushed back. The majority of the Ura forces were being engaged by human soldiers with shields and lasguns on the ground, laser bolts firing into the masses whilst the snipers and grenade launchers stationed atop the ramparts provided cover.
On the ground, in the heat of the hand to hand combat that raged around him, Momotaru stood unscathed with his straight blade sword at his side, dripping blood. His three assassin sisters formed a triangle around him. None of the Ura wanted to get close. In a brazen act, Momotaru lifted his blade and pointed it at the Ura leader. Just as Momotaru began to take a few steps forward, the undead creature let out a low growl of frustration as a frown appeared on his face.
The leader brought two fingers to his mouth and whistled. His howl filled with regret and anger, he gave the signal to retreat back into the Ura Forest.
Before the leader disappeared into the darkness, Momotaru charged forward and screamed, “You’ve not seen the last of me, coward!”

The Power Array Saga - Season Two - Part XIII

Part XIII – Momma’s Boy

“I told you that we should have aborted this one as a fetus,” said the sun elf king, Telemachus Avery the third; the king of the sun elves was tall and thin with fierce purple eyes.
“Father please!” shouted Princess Clairal. “He’s still my son no matter what you may think of his father.” She stepped forward, walking leisurely towards her only child and next in line to inherit the sun elf throne.
Momotaru averted his eyes, head hanging down as Princess Clairal stood in front of him. His mother reached out a gentle hand, cupping his chin within her delicate caramel fingers. She raised his head, chin facing skyward. She looked up into his eyes with a smile on her face.
“Don’t ever be ashamed of who you are my son,” said Princess Clairal. “Your grandfather has been on Threa for a very long time and has become stuck in his old way of thinking but the world is changing and with royal blood coursing through your veins, you’ll be the herald of what’s to come. This may be the last time that I ever lay my eyes on you again while you still breathe. Although you will live much longer than normal humans, you will still not live as long as me.”
“W-what are you saying?” asked Momotaru with a furrowed brow. His dark eyes connected with the dark green orbs of his mother.
“Enough of this nonsense,” interrupted King Avery. “What my daughter is saying is that this half bred bastard will no longer be allowed to step foot in my city or anywhere near the United Elven Kingdom.”
“H-how is that possible?” asked Momotaru. “I am an elf!”
“Not any longer half breed,” said the sun elf king. “The ruling council has decided to expel you from our beautiful lands for the rest of your natural existence. For the remaining hundred or so years of your worthless life, you will spend that time away from true elves.”
“M-mother,” said Momotaru with eyes wide and a glistening of water welling upwards. “This can’t be.”
“I’m sorry my son,” said Princess Clairal. She reached out to gingerly rub her sons strong, broad shoulders.
“I d-don’t understand,” said Momotaru. “How could you do something like this grandfather?”
“Don’t you dare call me that,” said King Avery. “I have no grandchildren.” The sun elf king folded his arms across his chest and turned his back. He strode up the steps of the palatial mansion. “Come, my queen… daughter, your goodbyes are finished.”
In a sudden defiant gesture, the sun elf queen, Visala Avery strode down the steps to stand in front of her grandson. “There was nothing to be done about it my boy,” said Queen Avery. “Me and your mother did everything in our power to lessen the severity of your punishment. My husband’s advisors would see you beheaded but thanks to your mother, you and your companions are only exiled.” The queen reached a hand out to gently brush Momotaru’s cheek. “Take care of yourself, my boy and may the sun god watch over you on your journey through life and remember that we sun elves receive our power from the sun so anytime it shines down on you, know that your ancestors are watching over you and protecting you.” With regret filled eyes she turned and marched up the steps to stand beside her husband.
“Clairal!” shouted the sun elf king. “Come along.”
The sun elf princess turned her head sharply to glare at her father. She turned back to regard her son and the anger in her eyes melted away as tears formed in the corner of her eyes. She embraced her son in a tight hug.
What they did not see was the discreet nod that the sun elf king gave the police officers standing not too far off. Major Rufap and Sergeant Hoplow forcefully and callously separated the mother and son pair as if he were being ripped from her womb for a second time.
“This isn’t the outcome that I would have liked but it will do,” said Sergeant Hoplow wearing a menacing grin.
Once Momotaru was restrained with magical handcuffs securing his hands behind his back, the two officers proceeded to secure Arif Zahur and Iris Longwing.
As Sergeant Hoplow secured the hands of Zahur with her purple, disheveled hair hanging over her face and her head hanging low in defeat, Major Rufap approached the Butterfly Samurai with a wry grin.
“Come on, Iris, you too,” said Major Rufap.
“This was never a part of the deal that we made,” said Iris.
“Well, just to be clear,” said Major Rufap. “You were never included in the deal that banished the princesses’ son. You’re wanted for the murder of the private investigator where we caught you red handed ransacking his home; there was no way that you were going to get out of this charge even if you did help us to track down Momotaru.”
                “What!” shouted Iris in shock.
The two officers laughed aloud. When Major Rufap approached casually, she was caught off guard when the Butterfly Samurai dropped a smoke bomb that obscured her location in a dense cloud of smoke. Major Rufap ran forward, hands swinging through the cloud of thick smoke with her las-gun out. When the smoke cleared, Iris Longwing had vanished.

The Power Array Saga - Season Two - Part XI

Part XI – Revelation

The phone inside the top floor office of the precinct rang and Major Rufap hurriedly picked it up.
“Go for Rufap,” said the major.
“You left a message for me to contact you,” said the voice on the other end. It was the voice that the two police officers had been waiting to hear from ever since they left their meeting with the sun elf princess. The Butterfly Samurai had finally contacted them.

In the desert, Momotaru sat on a log with his shirt off and poked at the fire in front of him with a stick.
“How much longer are we gonna have to be here?” asked Arif Zahur who lay on her back with limbs sprawled outward.
“And where exactly would you like us to go?” asked Momotaru. “It’s not like we can go back to Aver any time soon thanks to you.”
“Well anywhere but here,” said Zahur. “We’ve been here for forever.” She dragged out the last word to amplify the agony she felt by remaining in the remote location.
The old crone came limping out of her hut. She carried a thick, leather-bound book that she sat on the log beside Momotaru as she took a seat next to him.
“You’ve been slacking in your reading of the sacred text these past few days,” said the old crone.
“I needed to take a break,” said Momotaru. “I’ll start reading again soon.”
“You will read now,” said the old crone.
“Why should I?” asked Momotaru. “There’s always tomorrow.”
“Not for you,” said the old crone.
Both Momotaru and Zahur looked at one another with eyes wide in shock. Turning sharply towards the old crone, Momotaru fixed his icy stare upon her.
“What exactly is that supposed to mean?” asked Momotaru with furrowed eyebrows.
“It doesn’t matter,” said the old crone while wearing a large, toothless grin. “What does matter is the company that you’re expecting.”
Arif Zahur looked to Momotaru with a raised eyebrow.
“It’s your crazy ex-girlfriend that we ran into earlier,” said Zahur. “Isn’t it? Who is she and why is she so crazy?”
As if in response, a hover shuttle appeared in the distance, hovering several meters in the air as it approached. Momotaru and his companion hurriedly tried to gather up what little stuff that belonged to them. It was only a matter of seconds before the hovercraft was touching down next to the shack of the old hag.
Momotaru glowered as he stood and glared menacingly at his old adversary, the Butterfly Samurai.
“Good,” said Iris Longwing as she jumped out of the convertible hovercraft. “You two are packed up and ready to go. I have to take you two back to town. There’s some very important people wanting to have a word with you, Momo.”
“I’m not going anywhere with you, Iris,” said Momotaru. “Besides, I know if the police haven’t hired you to find me yet then they’ve probably hired someone else who’ll be looking for both of us. We need to stay ahead of them at all costs. Besides, Arif is one small guy, I don’t think he’ll last too long in prison.”
Iris burst out laughing at the comments made by her longtime friend. “Wait,” said Iris as she bent forward, holding her stomach and slapping her upper thigh while laughter burst forth from her lips. “I can’t believe that you’ve actually developed a sense of humor, Momo. That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard in a while.”
“Well,” said Momotaru hesitantly. “I don’t think it was that funny… I mean, I think Arif can kind of hold his own if we ever get caught. Plus he’ll have me to look out for him.”
Arif Zahur with eyes wide and pleading quickly looked to Iris as they seemed to speak using only their eyes. The smile on Iris face was quickly replaced be a stern frown.
“Wait,” said Iris shaking her head. “You’re serious aren’t you… you have no idea, do you?”
“No!” shouted Zahur springing forward to stand in front of Iris. She shook her head furiously as she stared into the color shifting Acro Eyes of the Butterfly Samurai. “Don’t say anything please.”
“What in the hell is going on?” asked Momotaru forcefully shoving the two of them apart. He looked down with a confused expression on his face and glared at his new traveling partner as a hint of a tear formed in Zahur’s eyes.
Grabbing ahold of Momotaru’s rippling, chocolate brown arm, Iris seductively drew herself closer to Momotaru. Lightly touching his forearm, she traced a finger up to his neck as she blew seductively into his ear.
“This one’s got a big secret,” said Iris with a slight giggle.
“A secret,” said Momotaru confused as he looked back and forth between Iris and Zahur. “What exactly is she talking about Arif?”
“N-nothing,” stuttered Zahur. “L-let’s get out of here.”
“No way,” said Momotaru blocking Zahur’s path. “Before I go anywhere with anyone else, you’re gonna tell me exactly what’s going on… or else.” He rested a hand on the hilt of the blade hanging at his waist.
“Ugh!” interrupted the old crone who still sat in front of the fire. “It’s your own fault Momo, you’ve let your senses become dulled. You should have been able to sense that your new traveling companion is female.”
               “What!” shouted Momotaru.
The Butterfly Samurai threw her head back and laughed all the more louder.
Arif Zahur turned her head away, abashed and unable to meet the confused expression on Momotaru’s face.
